Gotenks nearly overwhelms Buu with a barrage of new techniques, then wastes time showing off until the thirty-minute limit snaps the fusion back into two children. Gohan, transformed by his unlocked potential, corners Buu, but Buu splits off a piece of himself, absorbs Gotenks and Piccolo, then Gohan, and becomes even more monstrous. At the brink, Goku finally returns from afterlife training and stands with Vegeta, revived at the cost of the Old Kai's life. The two fuse with the Supreme Kai's earrings into Vegito and crush Buu, yet they let themselves be absorbed to save Gohan and the others inside. The curtain rises here on the last battle, heading into the original series' end in volume 42.
