Goku stacks the Kaio-ken, raising it to three times, then four, to stay even with Vegeta, but his body splits past its limit. The Spirit Bomb he gathers does not land clean, and Vegeta, turned Great Ape by an artificial moon, crushes him. Yajirobe cuts the tail; Krillin and Gohan throw what strength they have left. Under a moonless sky Gohan becomes a Great Ape and batters Vegeta, and the wrecked prince retreats in his ship. With Kami and Piccolo dead, Earth's Dragon Balls are gone, and a plan takes shape to seek Namek's Dragon Balls and revive the fallen. Goku collapses in wounds and leaves the rest to his friends. Vegeta vows the next settlement will be on Namek and vanishes into Earth's night sky. The fighters left behind set their next battlefield in distant space.
