Vegeta leaves the Room of Spirit and Time as Super Vegeta and batters semi-perfect Cell one-sidedly. Swollen with pride, he decides beating a perfect Cell is the only fight that counts and allows the absorption of 18, giving Cell room. Neither 16's warning nor Trunks's shouts arrive in time; Cell takes 18 and reaches perfection. Future-knowing Trunks's desperate intervention is too late, and arrogance shoves Earth toward the worst future. Not a gap in power but conceit wrecks the battle for good.
